WHO WE ARE
Paddle4Plastic is a beach community organization fighting climate change one paddle clean-up at a time. More than just trash picker-uppers with cool water gear, we are educators and concerned citizens who want to take care of our beaches for many more generations to enjoy and live off of. We grew up here, we live here, and we are here to take care of our community the way it has taken care of us.
OUR GOAL
Keeping our beaches clean goes beyond maintaining them for our enjoyment and keeping them safe for the creatures that live in and off the ocean. Beach clean-ups also show us how much “stuff” we use and waste we create. Our goal is to encourage mindfulness of what we consume and educate our community on how we can live more sustainably and create less waste.

HOW IT WORKS
Once a month, we meet at King Harbor Marina in Redondo Beach. Volunteers can bring their own paddle boards and kayaks or rent them from us for a suggested $10 donation. We also provide tools for actually picking up the trash. Then, we paddle out near the rocks (which is where trash tends to gather), we say hi to the sea lions, and we gather the trash in buckets or other containers that come out with us on the water. Once we fill up our buckets, we then paddle back to shore, weigh the trash, and then sort them out. Doing this not only highlights the vast amount of trash sitting in our little corner of the ocean, but also allows us to see the common items and surprising items that wind up in our ocean. It’s a huge eye opener for our volunteers and makes all of us think twice about the things we buy and use, and how we dispose of them.
